Tamarind Date Chutney
Ingredients:

Tamarind- 1 1/2 lemon sized balls

Jaggery- 1 1/2 lemon sized balls

Chopped dates(deseeded) - 1 cup

Oil- 2 tbsp

Chilly powder-1 1/2 tbsp

Salt- 1 tsp

Sont powder(sukku)- 1/2 tsp

Kalonji(onion seeds)- 1/8tsp

Sonf(sombu)- 1/8 tsp

Cummin seeds-1/8 tsp
-
Mustard seeds- 1/8 tsp

Methi seeds- 1/8 tsp
Method:
Soak tamarind in 2 cups of water for ten minutes. Squeeze well and strain
out the juice. Soak the dates in one cup of hot water for 5 minutes and
grind into a fine paste when cold. Powder the kalonji,mustard seeds, sonf,
cummin seeds and methi seeds coarsely. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan and
add the powdered ingredients. When it splutters, pour in the tamarind water,
jaggery, salt, chilli powder and the sonf powder. Boil till the raw smell
of tamarind disappears. Add the ground dates and boil till the chutney
becomes thick. Cool and serve with samosas, dahiwadas or any other snack.
Can also be used as a sandwich spread. If too sweet jaggery can be omitted.
