Heat little oil and fry red chillies, dhania, garlic, ginger, onion and then tomatoes. Fry till tomatoes become soft. Grind together with salt and tamarind. Heat another teaspoon of oil, add seasonings and mix with chutney.

Chop tomatoes and grind with other ingredients to coarse paste. Heat oil and fry the ground paste till oil separates. Serve this with vellai appam.
