Method:

Cook dal with radish and keep aside(almost 3 whistles will do). Soak the tamarind in hot water and take the tamarind extract. Saute the seasonings, add the cut tomatoes, green chillies and onion fry them till onions are brown and tomatoes are mashed. Add the tamarind extract to this along with turmeric powder and asafoetida. Let it boil for 5 mins. Add sambar powder and salt to taste. Let it boil. At the end add cooked tuar dal and radish and mix well. Now add the ground coconut and jeera paste and boil for 10 more minutes stirring continuously.
