Wash and soak gram for 2 hours. Drain. Heat fat. Add sliced garlic, chopped green chillies, turmeric powder and cumin. Saute. Add gram. Fry for 5 to 10 minutes. Sprinkle water, cover and cook on a very slow fire till gram is cooked. Stir occassionally and sprinkle more water if necessary(use water in which gram was soaked). When gram is cooked add salt, stir and serve hot.
